Juan Fernandez Ochoa # 5

The Sunday Session welcomes Juan Fernandez Ochoa! It’s a warm September Sunday, I’m with Juan Fernandez Ochoa for the Sunday Session. Juan is turned out smart in a well cut suit. We take a walk from where we both live; in Stamford Hill towards Dalston (which people now consider quite central). We get talking about the choices one makes when moving to a big city: what’s to be gained; what’s to be lost. Juan is from Venezuela, I’m from Derby 🙂 Of course I can’t compare with the journey Juan has made to start a life in the UK  but London …

Marichús Fernandez Quintana # 4

The Sunday Session welcomes Marichús Fernandez Quintana. Known to her many London friends as Maria she throws herself into the alternative party scene and attracts followers on the way like a present day Pied Piper. Maria moved from Spain to London two years ago and discovered the English pub, a great place to both learn English and hang out. She began to work as an au pair, but now enjoys volunteering for the British Red Cross and works as a teaching assistant. Her goal is to be a social worker, after she has gained the necessary experience. Maria loves to meet …

Claire Follea # 3

The Sunday Session welcomes Claire Follea! Claire Follea moved from Paris to London in 1998 to learn English. She was taken with the city’s energy and vibrancy. As she says: London is a place that ‘keeps on giving’. She endeavours to capture this in her many photographic projects. Since the early 2000′s Claire has also worked as a manager at many of London’s leading restaurants.

MOE SAKAN # 2

Back then I was simply choosing subjects from my social circles, and then matching them up with a location; and of course this all happened on a Sunday. After the session I would write a simple biography and publish this alongside the portraits. Now each session takes a different form. I want to make a wider portrait of my subjects, so I ask them to choose a location and a local cafe or place to …

Alan St. Clair # 1

– 7 minute read –   I’m writing this text to accompany my first Sunday Session featuring Alan St. Clair. Back in summer 2014 the ideas for this project were just forming. I chose the locations for the shoot and Alan came along. We made the portraits. There was one defining moment that stuck with me from that day. It was after I had taken the last frame that I commented to Alan about how well the shoot had gone, and that I felt the process felt easy and flowing. Alan said: “Yes, but don’t think you did it” I …
